About Proton Mail & Core Product Breakdown
Proton AG (headquartered in Switzerland) is a premier privacy-focused technology company best known for its end-to-end encrypted email service, Proton Mail. Swiss privacy laws, zero-access encryption architecture and open-source cryptography protect user communications from external surveillance. While starting as a standalone encrypted inbox, Proton Mail has evolved into the central hub for the comprehensive Proton Ecosystem — seamlessly integrating Proton Drive, Proton Calendar, Proton Pass and Proton VPN into a single zero-knowledge security suite.
During Black Friday and Cyber Week, Proton AG routinely offers its deepest discounts of the year, cutting prices by 33% to 50% across 1-year and 2-year subscriptions. Below is a breakdown of their core service tiers:
1. Proton Mail Plus
Proton Mail Plus is the flagship standalone tier designed for individual users seeking a secure, private email setup with custom domain integration and expanded inbox capacity.
Key Features:
- End-to-end encryption with zero-access architecture for total data privacy
- 15 GB total storage space shared across Mail and Drive
- Support for 1 custom email domain (e.g. me@mydomain.com) and up to 10 email aliases
- Advanced inbox management including unlimited folders, labels and automated filters
- Integrated desktop client support via Proton Mail Bridge (IMAP/SMTP integration)
Editor’s Note:
Proton Mail Plus is the ideal entry point if you want to move away from big-tech tracking without paying premium suite prices. Black Friday is the absolute best time to acquire 12-month or 24-month passes at steep discounts.
2. Proton Unlimited (Best Value Tier)
Proton Unlimited is Proton’s flagship multi-app privacy bundle, consolidating all premium Proton services — Mail, Drive, Calendar, Pass and VPN — under a single account subscription.
Key Features:
- 500 GB high-speed encrypted storage space for secure file archives and backups
- Support for 3 custom email domains and up to 150 email aliases with custom hides
- Proton VPN Plus included with high-speed 10 Gbps servers, NetShield ad-blocker and Tor over VPN
- Proton Pass Plus password manager featuring unlimited logins, 2FA authenticator and hide-my-email aliases
- Unlimited hide-my-email aliases to prevent real email exposure and spam tracking
Editor’s Note:
Proton Unlimited represents the absolute highest value in the lineup. If you already use or plan to use a password manager, VPN or cloud storage, upgrading to Unlimited during Cyber Week gives you the entire privacy suite for less than buying standalone services separately.
3. Proton Family
Proton Family expands the complete Proton Unlimited feature set across up to 6 individual family members or household users, providing dedicated private spaces under a unified billing management setup.
Key Features:
- Massive 3 TB total encrypted cloud storage pool allocatable across up to 6 accounts
- Full Proton Unlimited access for every family member (Mail, Drive, VPN, Pass, Calendar)
- Support for up to 3 custom domains shared across family members
- Complete end-to-end privacy — account managers cannot access other members’ private inboxes or files
- Centralised subscription management with easy member onboarding and storage allocation controls
Editor’s Note:
Proton Family offers exceptional value for households wanting complete privacy protection. Looking at past Black Friday events, locking in a 24-month Family plan offers the lowest per-user monthly cost available.
