    Hasleo Disk Clone Usability

In this section I will be sharing my hands-on experience with the latest version of Hasleo Disk Clone. I will walk through the download and installation process before going on to explore the many disk and partition cloning features included within both free and premium editions of the product.

This process begins via the official Hasleo website where the free edition of the tool can be downloaded or one of the two premium editions purchased.

    Installing Disk Clone

Installing the Disk Clone software begins via the official Hasleo (formally EasyUEFI) website where the free edition of the software can be downloaded.

    hasleo disk clone installer running

Disk Clone was a very quick download at just over 26MB in my own instance and, once set running, the installer itself required just a few of clicks before the Disk Clone Windows desktop application was installed and ready to be used. At this point the free edition of Disk Clone can be used as soon as it has been installed or, if purchased via the official Hasleo website, the Professional and Enterprise versions can now be activated.

upgrading to hasleo disk clone professional in app

NB – It is also very easy to check for and update the Disk Clone application form within the application itself, something which is often recommended when installing a new piece of software.

Activating the Professional version of the software in my own case simply involved entering the licence key which is received after a purchase (as can be seen above) before the full functionality of the application becomes available (no additional installs or new downloaded components are required when upgrading from the free edition of Disk Clone to the Professional version).

    Cloning Entire Systems

One of the key features of Hasleo Disk Cone is its ability to perform full system cloning of active Windows systems made up across multiple disks and partitions. This process begins via the application’s homepage with the “System Clone” mode selected to select all required disks and partitions which make up the currently running system.

system cloning configuration view in hasleo disk clone

With the system disks and partitions selected, the next page in the cloning configuration process allows for the target disk to be selected. All available disks will be listed here and once any disk has been selected it will also be possible to specify various other options including converting to MBR or GPT during cloning, maintaining the target disk’s partition layout (if required) alongside being able to turn on the “Advanced Mode” when using the Professional or Enterprise versions of the software.

hasleo disk clone - selecting target disk for system cloning

With the target disk selected, the next page in the configuration process allows for the target disks layout to be fine-tuned up to and including moving and re-sizing partitions and free space on the target disk prior to cloning commencing. As can be seen below, this disk and partition adjustment can be made via both graphical sliders or by manually typing in the desired partition sizes with a graphical representation of any modifications shown above.

hasleo disk clone - editing system clone target disk layout

Also configurable on this third page in the set-up process is the ability to specify either 4K or 1M disk sector alignment, perform sector-by-sector cloning for enhanced accuracy in capturing all data on a disk (including any free space) plus also to specify the target partition been created as either a primary or logical disk partition.

hasleo disk clone - system cloning operation in-progress

Once this easy-to-use (yet still comprehensive) configuration is complete, the cloning operation can be set running via the “Proceed” button found towards the bottom of the page. Once running, the software will provide a detailed live overview of the cloning process including a percentage bar and the option to specify additional actions upon completion (this includes being able to reboot or shutdown the system if required).

    Cloning Individual Disks & Partitions

In addition to full system cloning (which is available in both the free and Professional editions) Hasleo Disk Clone also supports cloning individual disks and partitions with additional capabilities for moving, resizing and adjusting partition types prior to the cloning operation commencing.

hasleo disk clone - partition clone configuration

As can be seen above, when cloning individual partitions, we must first select “Partition Clone” using the mode switch which will then alter the main selection of the application allowing individual disk partitions to be selected as cloning sources. On the next page in the configuration process, we can select the allocation of free disk space to clone this partition to (and also opt to turn on the advanced mode when working in the Professional edition and higher).

hasleo disk clone - selecting unallocated storage for partition cloning

After selecting the free target disk space, the layout of the target disk prior to cloning is complete. As can be seen below it is possible to allow the cloned partition to be resized in order to make use of some or all of the available disk space (or maintain its current size) and we can also specify sector-by-sector cloning and 4K partition alignment be used when cloning an entire system as was seen earlier on in this review.

hasleo disk clone - partition cloning target layout configuration

With all parameters now configured, the cloning process can begin. This is a process which will utilise the same progress screen as was seen earlier on in the review when cloning a full system to a new disk and facilitates automatically rebooting or shutting down the PC upon completion as well.

Creating and Using the Bootable Media

Also available within both the free and premium editions of Hasleo Disk Clone is the bootable media building tool. This is a tool referred to as an “emergency disk” within the desktop application itself, although such live CD tools can be useful in variety of situations including cloning a PC without the need to boot into Windows and install third-party disk cloning software beforehand.

hasleo disk clone - bootable media builder menu entry

As can be seen above, the bootable media building tool can be accessed via the main desktop application menu found at the top right of the window. The next part of the process (see below) is where we can optionally have the software download the Microsoft WinPE components which are used by the bootable media (if they are not already available on the PC) as well as being able to specify any drivers to be inserted into the finalised bootable media.

hasleo disk clone - download winpe components

NB – If you have already downloaded the Windows WinPE components and have them saved on the device, this can be specified on the next page in the configuration wizard (otherwise the official Microsoft source can be selected for downloading them from).

With the WinPE components available, the next stage in building bootable media involves specifying whether to create a bootable USB device (if such a device is available) or to simply create an ISO file which can be written to a CD or DVD at a later stage.

hasleo disk clone - winpe environment in-use

As can be seen above, once in the Hasleo Disk Clone bootable recovery environment itself, it is possible to use the core Hasleo Disk Clone desktop software in much the same way as was the case with the main desktop version. This includes being able to clone entire disks and partitions (although the system cloning option does seem to be missing) as well as being able to install additional drivers and open the Windows command prompt for any additional pre-cloning configuration.

NB – From this point onwards the recovery environment version of Disk Clone works in much the same way as the desktop version does (with obvious omissions such as being able to change the theme being omitted).

Other Features of Hasleo Disk Clone

Hasleo Disk Clone is a highly focused disk cloning tool, so much so that there is little else in terms of additional functionality such as a backup client, task scheduling, encryption, the ability to create disk image backups nor any integration with cloud storage and the like. Whilst this could be viewed as a negative by some, I believe in certain cases (such as this one) it is a good approach in delivering a highly focused tool which is easy to use and good at performing a specific task (and Hasleo Disk Clone is exactly that tool).

hasleo disk clone - dark mode application view

Aside from being highly focused and making it easy to accomplish various disk cloning activities, there are still a few additions to take note of within Hasleo Disk Clone. The first is the ability to set a dark theme (via the application menu found at the top right) which can make the application easier to visualise for some.

Also useful to see is an updating tool which can be used to quickly and easily check for and download any new versions of the software as and when they become available (remember, premium versions of Hasleo Disk Clone feature free lifetime upgrades making this a useful addition to see included as well).

    Software Support from Hasleo

Hasleo provide a series of detailed and easy to follow product guides for making use of the Disk Clone software. These guides cover all of the main functions of the software (System Clone, Disk Clone and Partition Clone) including how to build and make use of the bootable recovery media.

hasleo disk clone - support web page view

Additionally, a user forum is available for more detailed support requests and the official support webpage provides contact details (via email) for contacting the Hasleo support team should this be required.

    Hasleo Disk Clone Review Summary

Hasleo Disk Clone is notable as a highly focused and highly functional free disk cloning tool. This is a tool which is ideal for performing a variety of different disk and partition cloning operations with additional support for managing, resizing and converting disk and partition types during the cloning process.

This high degree of functionality is especially true in the free edition which provides a lot of useful disk cloning functionality including 4K alignment, sector-by-sector operation plus support for cloning active system disks which is not always available in other free cloning tools. Whilst disk imaging and backup functionality is not included within the Disk Clone software line (Hasleo have other titles which are more backup focused), the focused and easy to use approach delivered here will undoubtedly appeal to many Windows device users.

All-in-all, Disk Clone forms a really useful free disk cloning utility which, with free lifetime upgrades available, also provides great value in its premium editions – great work Hasleo.
